History of the Fund
Created in 1989 by the Southern Nursery Association (SNA), the Sidney B. Meadows Scholarship Endowment Fund is a 501 (c) 3 charitable foundation providing academic scholarships to students in sixteen southeastern states. In December of 1990, a corporation was formed for operating the scholarship program, and in May of 1991, the corporation received IRS approval to operate as a 501 (c) 3 charitable foundation. Contributions or gifts to the Sidney B. Meadows Scholarship Endowment Fund are tax deductible as charitable contributions.
The scholarship is dedicated to one of the most honored horticultural leaders, the late Sidney B. Meadows, who has been described as one of the industry's great humanitarians. Meadows was an avid supporter of student scholarships and believed that providing aid for students was the most important way to ensure the growth and development of all facets of the industry. Because of his beliefs and passion, many students are awarded scholarships each year. With the continued support of others, more deserving students may be this year's recipients.
The Fund's development is dependent upon individual and corporate contributions, is governed by the Sidney B. Meadows Scholarship Endowment Fund Board of Directors, and is administered by Summers & Associates.
The Sidney B. Meadows Scholarship Endowment Fund makes awards without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, marital status, sex, age, physical disability or military status.
